Playstation 7-Wire Mod Chip FAQ's


Q:  Why should I buy a Stealth Mod instead of a Classic Mod?
A:  The Stealth Mod Chip will allow games that have Sony's Anti-Mod protection to play inside of a modified PlayStation. These include Dino Crisis, Final Fantasy VIII, Pocket MuuMuu and MANY others. These stealth chips can play all Playstation games.

Q:  What is a Stealth Mod Chip?
A:  Sony has recently announced that some of their upcoming games will be incorporating a Anti-Mod protection scheme. In order to get around this protection the Stealth Mod Chip was invented.

Q:  How does a Stealth Mod Chip Work?
A:  A Stealth Mod Chip auto-detects from signals within the PlayStation when it should be sending data out and when it should not. This way the protected game has no way of knowing the chip is inside the system!

Q:  Will my Game Enhancer/Game shark work with Stealth Mod Chip?
A:  Yes it will. However you will need to follow the following procedure to boot your games.

Open the lid, put the CD in the unit, leave the lid open.
Turn on the PlayStation.
Pick whatever cheat codes you want to use.
Close the lid and press the button to start the game within 1-2 seconds of closing the lid.
You must do this procedure because the units like the Game Enhancer/Game Shark take over the boot process and since the Stealth Chip must go into Stealth mode in order to beat the new protection you must tell the chip to wake up before you tell the game to boot.

Q:  Why are some people using 4 wire chips and you're using 7?
A:  The 7wire chip is the only chip that you should use. The 6 wire chips are using timing routines to tell the chip when to deactivate. The problem is that some games REQUIRE that the chip stay on for longer periods of time. This means the 4 wire code is not going to boot some games! With the 7 wire code it detects when to shut off from a signal that the PlayStation itself sends out! Meaning no matter what game you put in there it knows when to shut down!

Q:  What is a PSX Mod Chip?
A:  A PSX Mod Chip is installed into your Sony PlayStation. When installed, it allows you to play imported PSX Games as well as backups of your own games made on CD-R Media.

Q:  Does a Mod Chip work on ALL PlayStation models?
A:  The chip will work on all PlayStation models except those purchased in Japan or Hong Kong. All US/UK models and others work fine.

Q:  Why do I need this to play imports and backups?
A:  The Sony PlayStation checks the country code on the CD before it allows the game to start. If the country code on the disc does not match that of YOUR PlayStation, it will not allow you to play the game.

Q:  Is it hard to install a Mod Chip?
A:  No! It is easy to install a Mod Chip if you know how to solder. The typical installation time is 15-25 minutes - from unscrewing the first screw to putting the last screw back in. The installation requires you to solder only 7 wires to your PlayStation board.
